Spring Break is overrated

As I sit here and yawn, I try to ignore the fact that come Monday this lavish Spring Break I've been on will have come to an end. A few days off from school, relaxing in Freeport, and within a weeks time I'm back in the swing of Dekalb life. A life that I've come to enjoy, but a life I'm thankful isn't going to last forever.
Kayla went to visit here father and sister in South Carolina earlier this week, so most of my days have been spent at home with the cat and dog that also live here. No, not my mom and sister, but Beatz the cat and Sadie the dog. I took Beatz into the vet on Tuesday morning as I made an appointment for him to get declawed - front paws only. I feel bad getting him declawed as it is, so to make myself feel better, I just did the front. This leaves him with half of his catness, while the other half got thrown into the garbage at the vets office. And now he no longer has the ability to go wolverine on my hands and arms.
While he was getting that done, I had a dentists appt. Based upon how much they charged me to get my work done, I've been contemplating a career as a DDS. Man, what took him half and hour to do, cost me what I make in a week. Though, my dentist does somewhat resemble Steve Martin, and he was telling me about how he use to be a Flight Attendant for a company based out of Hawaii. I just pretend like I payed so much money to hear a funny story from Steve Martin; that makes me feel a bit better. How ironic Steve Martin plays a dentist in Little Shop of Horrors.
The rest of my days have been filled with the usual errands. Nothing that's worth typing about.
In other news - I've officially given up drinking coffee. This, I hope, will benefit not only my teeth but also my pocketbook. Why did I ever fall prey to Starbucks shenannigans? I don't know either, but I tossed that crap out the window. But, in an effort to kick the roasted brew, I've picked up pop again, which isn't much healthier. And by that I mean not healthy at all. Oh well. Diet Pepsi's new marketing campaign just sucks me in. I feel like I'm drinking a refreshing beverage that appeals to me. Not really. Who gives a shit. It tastes good.
Michael bought xbox live for the xbox 360 I sold him this past Decemember. It's become my new drug. It's beyond addicting. Kind of like the first time you ever surfed the internet, or started chatting on AIM. Every time I look at the clock another 2 hours has passed, and I feel like such a pile of wasted space, but that's okay. You know why - see first paragraph. Spring Break. No questions asked. Be as lazy as you want.
Uh oh, my turn to play.

1000 times a day

An Early November inspired title comes along with today's blog. The song that really inspired me to sit down and listen to them. I had no care of concern for them before hearing "1000 times a day", but after that I gave it a go. Fact: this song is one of those boy and girl fall in love type songs, but it's unique and personal, and I just enjoy the overall vibe of the song. Thankfully, my happening upon this song opened my eyes to some of their other great albums. That's an opinion, though. Ace Enders, the lead singer, actually does a really great cover of The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" with all types of guest vocalists. I suggest you listen to it - here.
Tomorrow night, after I get off of work from driving the bus, Kayla and I are headed to Northwestern University to meet up with my friend Joe. Joe is one of my best friends whom I met back in 2006 when I worked for Victory Records. Phenomenal guy with a great head on his shoulders. He's been working with some of the biggest names in the music business, and owns his own label - Silent Movie Records. Currently he's on tour with Joshua Radin, whom some of you might know from anything related to Zack Braff. He and Zack are old college friends, so Scrubs and any ZB movie tends to have Joshua on the soundtrack. Singer/Songwriter type that is good for what he is. I have one of his cd's, courtesy of Kayla, and it's a great "sitting around and enjoying life" type album.
Last time I saw Joe was a little over a year ago when he was on tour with All Time Low and Just Surrender. He's done some amazing trips including - Lifehouse, Type O Negative, Sigur Ros, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and Ice Cube. Yes, Ice Cube. After this tour with Mr. Radin, he goes out with Mindless Self Indulgence followed by Lamb of God. Both would be great tours.
Back to seeing Joe, though. He's just a good guy to be around. One of those guys that when you meet him, you just have to like the guy because he's truly genuine. He and I are going to be brainstorming of possible summer jobs for myself, since I'm looking for a road gig again this upcoming May - August. I need a job that's going to give me the best form of payment, and Dekalb, IL isn't going to provide for that. With my experience from previous road gigs, I'm hoping to pull in something. If Atticus decides to do Warped Tour again this summer, I'll be running their tent, but as for now that's still up in the air. But, I can't assume that something willl fall into place for me, so I'm going to be putting in applications around the area here as I need to have something lined up.
Here's to hoping that my work ethic starts to pay off soon, and someone calls me to ride their bus with them and sell their merch at shows across the country.

I'm no Steve Perkins

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best at updating this blog. This could be for a variety of reasons, aka excuses, that I give myself each on why it's okay to skip out and not fill the world in on my routine life. Alright, alright, maybe it's not so routine, but I usually can't pull anything together to write about. I've thought about posting past experiences on here, and by past experiences I mean the randomness that was my life from the time I was 18 until about 23. I'll save that for another time on a different blog titled "How to survive on $5 a week while having a great time, or so you think."
My time spent in DSM last weekend with the original rough shaker, Steve Perkins, was a most marvelous time. I forgot how much fun can be had playing Wii, drinking Bud Light, and listening to Kansas around 1 in the afternoon. The initial trip out there was a bit hectic with the weather being less than fun to drive in; though, we made it, and we made it safely. Kayla and I were able to experience Ohana for the first time, and I have to say that it might have lived up to the expectations I had set for it. Hard to believe. Nothing impresses me. Nothing. I'm made of stone and I eat nails.
Thankfully the girl next to me in the computer lab is playing Kanye West loud enough through her earphones in order for me to also listen in. How thoughtful on her part. I'm sure her eardrums will be even more thankful in the next few years.
I'd type more, but I'm in a rush to go get some errands done before my 1 o'clock Coms class. We're currently doing a simulation exercise where the class is divided up into Producers, Networks, and Agencies all attempting to cast a line up for TV for two nights. I'm part of the Agencies group while Kayla, who is also in the class by random chance, is part of the Producers. It's more fun than I had anticipated it being.
Ohhh, another great song on her iPod. I love to complain about other people's poor choices in music.
Hey, Steve, maybe you can play me some more Eric Prydz or whatever that terrible artists name is. Thanks!

Mid Day Writing - History Class

This morning I had my second test of the semester. My first took place last week, Thursday to be exact, in my Anthropology class - also known as the "God doesn't exist" class. My 50 minute test this morning, though, was in History 261: 1865 to present. Over recent weeks we've discussed all types of interesting topics including Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, The Compromise of 1877, and the formation of Unions. Had my professor not been one of the most unique teachers I've met so far, I might be a little bit more nervous about the class. We don't use textbooks; instead he assigned 5 different books that we're reading throughout the semester in order to interpret different variations of each part of History. According to Professor Hagaman "Everything you learned in High School History books lied to you." You see why I like him. The man ain't bringing him down!
Anyways, PH(Professor Hagaman), isn't a fan of technology, so this morning I was fortunate enough to write 8 different essay questions down in my handy dandy Blue Book. A free book that some moron came up with that is covered with blue paper, and then has about 5 sheets of notebook paper attached inside. God forbid we use our own notebook paper. Had I known some fool would invest in this idea, I would have been rich by the time I was 6.
I feel that I did B worthy on the test, but with this being the first exam, I don't know what to expect grading wise. He's usually to hopped up on Diet Pepsi to really settle down, so I'm hoping he rushes through these tests like it's his job. Wait, it is.

Claymation and hesitation

Despite the fact that I can't draw circle to save my life, I'm tossing around the idea to start making my own claymation cartoon. More so for the fact that I think it would be a great way for me to get out all these bonehead ideas that I have, and also just have some fun and not stress about stuff.
Do I think I'm the funniest guy around? Yes, yes I do. Okay, no I don't, but I do think that I could come up with some clever and witty little shows that I would get a kick out of, and so would various people; maybe even a stranger or two.
Again, only thing keeping me "tossing" this idea around would be coming up with a camera that would allow me to do such a thing. By no means do they run cheap, and my first priority at the moment isn't to purchase a camera so I can make cartoons with. I'm hoping that in the near future I'm able to come up with a way to make this idea a reality, but also not break the bank even more than I already have.

Old man winter needs to answer my phone calls.
This morning classes were postponed until noon, thank goodness. I say this because my car battery opted to crap out and give up on me. Luckily Kayla was nice enough to let me borrow he roommates jumper cables and her car in order to bring the white beauty back to life. Took about 45 minutes to do so, but in the end I was happy as was my wallet.
Tonight I'm fortunate enough to get to work driving the huskie bus from 10:10 - 2:10am. The graveyard shift in dekalb on a cold and wintery weekend is about as good as my life gets around here. I'm in the process of trying to save money to leave state on spring break, but with every passing day I remember how hard saving money is.
Oh, and dorm life is great. Uh huh.
